Must Know Features Of New Micromax Canvas 4

Micromax is undoubtedly the first Indian Smartphone manufacturer who made a ground among international counterparts. Canvas HD, the previous flagship from the company was a runaway success. Following the trait, Micromax has released its Canvas 4, which was expected to bring a mammoth of performance and design into customer’s hands at an affordable price.

However, instead of going for the high end specifications, Micromax launched the device with minor changes from its predecessor Canvas HD. Surely, a portion of the Micromax fans are not happy about this. However, the company had worked on something different into this device, which clearly reflects on the user interface. Here are the 7 amazing features compiled by Times Of India, which makes this Smartphone a hot grab at 17,999.

Specifications at a glance:

Display: 5-inch capacitive touchscreen (1280x720p resolution)
Operating system: Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)
Processor: 1.2GHz MediaTek 6589 quad-core CPU, PowerVR SGX 544 graphics chip
RAM: 1GB; Storage: 16GB internal storage with support for up to 32GB microSD card
Camera: 13MP camera, 5MP front-facing camera
Connectivity: 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
Battery: 2,000mAh

Battery:

Canvas 4 comes with a Lithium-Ion battery of 2000 mAh, which is supposedly the same one from Canvas HD. This was another let down from the manufacturer, as the onlookers expected a bigger battery, following the teaser leased by the manufacturer with tag line “Can life be endless?” The performance of this battery in this more powerful phone is still a concern. But, until we get the device in hand for reviews, commenting on the battery life would be too early.

Design and Body:

In terms of design and features, Canvas 4 is better than the previous version. Even though it is made up of the same glossy plastic, the fit and finish are far better than any of the Smartphones in the range. The phone has an aluminum frame running through the edges, which adds to the look and sturdiness.

Performance:

Micromax has not customized the Android OS in Canvas 4 heavily. So under the skin, you will get a pure Android Jelly Bean experience. Moreover, on a performance test with Antutu, a popular Android benchmark, the phone scored around 15,000 points, which is more than what can be expected from a phone of this price range.

Screen:

Screen is a place where Micromax fans expected more. Instead of a full HD screen, the company went for resolution of 720x1280 in a 5 inch display. Even though it is not full HD, the screen is optimized for better and rich colors compared to the previous one. A Corning Gorilla Glass protects the HD IPS screen from scratches.

Slim:

Irrespective of packing a 5 inch display, the Canvas 4 is distinctively thin and compact than the previous device, Canvas HD.  The device has a slim design rounded off with an aluminum band, which doubles as the antenna. Moreover, with the two colours, especially smoky grey, the device looks appealing.

Camera:

A new 13 megapixel camera fitted with Sony sensor is the biggest improvement Micromax has brought to its device. Assisting the main camera, there is also a 5 megapixel front camera which is perfect for self portraits and video calls. Upon the preliminary tests by TOI, the camera is found to take good pictures under light. However, images taken in the low-light conditions lacked sharpness. More details can be known after a thorough test with the Smarthone.

Unique Features:

Canvas 4 comes with a set of unique software features which is rather a gimmick than pure innovation. It includes, unlocking the phone with just a blow of air, flipping the phone to make it silent, bringing the device near ears to answer a call and an eye tracking function like ‘Smart Pause’ from Samsung phones, which will pause the video, if you look away from the screen.

However, it is yet to decide on the usability of these features including simultaneously running two videos at a time.

  1. Hi Everyone,

Micromax has gone a long way now to finally produce a phone worth purchasing. The sleek aluminum frame gives the phone amazing feel & looks premium. Good performance, display & internal storage.. Worth buying in this range when compared to others.
